Mt Maria College, Mitchelton’s Ian Sweeney was recently re-elected to a significant leadership position on the 2018 Drama Queensland Committee.
Drama Queensland is the peak representative body for drama educators across the state and provides high quality and meaningful professional development opportunities for teachers in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
Mr Sweeney’s appointment lies within the Professional Development Portfolio, which will see him at the forefront of information, expertise, and advice when it comes to curriculum development work with governance bodies.
Drama Queensland members recognise that drama in education is important and valuable and work to develop drama as both a teaching method and an art form.
Mt Maria College, Mitchelton Principal Mr Glenn McConville said: “Mr Sweeney’s appointment is great news because it means the College will have direct access to leading practice in the drama education space,”
“The College’s voice will be represented on the committee with Mr Sweeney having first-hand involvement in preparing new senior programs for the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
“Mr Sweeney will continue his advocacy for drama and the arts and bring first-class collaborations with artists directly to our students, which will benefit them to no end.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled for Mr Sweeney in his appointment; a very big congratulations to him,” said Mr McConville.
Drama Queensland President Dana Holden said that Mr Sweeney will be ‘a great asset’ to the committee.
Along with his commitments to Drama Queensland, Mr Sweeney is the Champagnat Pastoral House Leader and teacher, and is coaching and administering the college’s Theatre Sports program, along with providing technical and backstage support for the 2018 musical – Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
